Going Green
One of the biggest myths that most people believe about sustainable building is that all green homes have to look modern, sleek, and unconventional. The truth? Green homes can look as traditional as any other home on the block. In fact, the most important aspects of creating a green home happen behind the scenes. It's all about the materials we choose, the insulation we use, and the design decisions we make along the way.
Beyond its obvious beauty, a Native Structures timber frame home is a high-performance, energy-efficient, and earth-friendly design.
Starting with the frame itself, we encourage clients to choose reclaimed timber and wood certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), which sets and enforces the strictest environmental and social regulations around forest management. From the beginning, we also incorporate plenty of natural light and passive solar energy into the design. It is one of the easiest and most cost-effective ways to build a low-energy home.
Paired with our timber frames, our Smart Shell insulation system creates a tightly sealed envelope, which reduces energy costs by up to 50%. Made of recyclable oriented strand board (OSB) and expanded polystyrene (EPS) foam, the system includes roof, ceiling, and exterior wall panels, energy-efficient windows, and exterior doors.
