Green Build: LEED Gold-Certified Home
Construction starts Spring '09
As the first LEED house in Providence, Rhode Island, this high-performance home is a candidate for Gold certification. Designed by Kite Architects, it incorporates a myriad of
sustainable features, including a low-impact design that uses
a high-percentage of recycled, reclaimed, and FSC-certified materials.
We are also using a whole-house fan to expunge humidity in temperatures less than 84-degrees, nearly eliminating the need for a cooling system. To improve indoor air quality, we will use an energy recover ventilator (ERV) in tandem with our high-performance Smart Shell insulation package, which includes roof, ceiling, and exterior wall panels, energy-efficient windows, and exterior doors. The structural insulated panels (SIPs) used in our Smart Shell carry high R-values for the ultimate in energy efficiency.
